A GoodART Workshop on Storytelling and Collage Making for Children Aged 9-17 Led by Rachel Anyo
Join us at G.A.S. Lagos on May 3rd, 2025, for Retelling and Creating New Memories, an exciting collage workshop for children, presented in collaboration with The Children’s Art Gallery (TCAG). This fun and creative workshop will be led by current resident Rachel Anyo, whose multidisciplinary artistic practice explores personal histories and cultural narratives. In this hands-on workshop, children will explore the rich worlds of both old and modern archives, discovering how personal stories and photographs can be transformed into powerful creative materials. Through collage techniques, they will mix and match images to tell their own stories and contribute to a larger, collective artwork. The goal is to help children create new memories by connecting past and present in imaginative and expressive ways.
Rachel Anyo is passionate about using art to help children better understand their personal histories and the world around them. She believes in the power of storytelling and memory-making through art, and she is committed to creating spaces where children can freely explore their identities, their culture, and the shared stories that connect them all. By engaging with archives and creating art, children will not only express themselves but also experience the joy of working collaboratively with their peers.
This workshop will allow participants to discover the importance of archives, explore their own stories, and express themselves through art in a way that is fun, educational, and meaningful.

Rachel Anyo
Rachel Anyo (b. Kiryat Yam, Israel) is a multidisciplinary artist and photographer whose work explores identity, femininity, and cultural heritage. Merging traditional Ethiopian folklore with contemporary digital techniques, she creates a unique visual language, reinterpreting hand weaving through family photographs, digital collages, mandalas, and woven compositions. Anyo has held solo exhibitions, including Figure Coming to Life at the Haifa Museum of Art (2024) and A Love Letter to Myself at Maya Gallery (2023), and has participated in several group exhibitions. Beyond her studio practice, Anyo is committed to community-based art initiatives, working to make contemporary art accessible to underserved audiences. Her focus on community engagement fosters social change and enriches the discourse around cultural identity and representation.

About the Collaborator
The Children's Art Gallery (TCAG)
TCAG was established to encourage children, especially those from low-income families, to create and exhibit their artwork. The gallery provides a platform for showcasing and selling children’s art, with proceeds going toward the children’s welfare, including health and education. The gallery also organizes educational programs in hospitals and communities, promoting discussions on image ownership and personal storytelling through art.
Rachel Anyo’s residency is generously supported by Artis, and we are pleased to be collaborating with TCAG for this event.
