On Thursday, May 4, 2023, G.A.S. Foundation hosted Why Hast Thou Forsaken Me? , an immersive installation and performance by G.A.S. Fellow and  Farm House resident, Tobi Onabolu. With two showings of his performance, and an installation showing photography and poetry from the duration of his residency. Across video, photography, sound, poetry, and performance, this multimedia body of work interrogated the process of liberating the subconscious mind and the body from external forces of control. With the increasing imposition of digital technology, organized religion, hegemonic socio-economic systems, and cultural normativity on our minds and bodies; all of which are ubiquitous within our daily lived experiences, Tobi questioned what remains of the human's "natural instincts?” 

Earlier this month we welcomed interdisciplinary artist, and Guest Projects Digital alumni Chiizii to Lagos. Her practice spans sculpture, digital, performance, photography, music, dance, and research. Through her work Chiizii investigates the role of art in preserving Igbo food culture, utilizing art as a tool for both learning and teaching and emphasizing traditional and contemporary Igbo art practices in knowledge production and information exchange. Her Lagos residency is generously supported by South London Gallery.

We are thrilled to announce that Laeïla Adjovi, a Beninese-French multidisciplinary artist, has joined G.A.S. Foundation for a residency in Lagos, Nigeria, starting on the 5th of April 2023 until the 3rd of May 2023. Laeïla is a storyteller, photographer, visual artist, and researcher whose work focuses on cultural hybridity, multi-layered identities, visible and invisible borders, and African cultural heritage.

This April, Nate Agbetu hosted Third Spaces, an evening of knowledge exchange, social innovation, and networking at G.A.S. Lagos. Curated by current resident Nate Agbetu, Third Spaces collaboratively explored how we make spaces for culture.
