Guest Artists Space Foundation (G.A.S.) is committed to providing an inclusive and welcoming environment for all guests and residents, including those with disabilities. Our accessibility policy outlines the measures we have taken to ensure that our facilities and services are accessible to as many individuals as possible.
This page provides a range of information for members of the public and our residents who will be visiting either of the G.A.S. Foundation buildings in Nigeria. To request specific accommodations please contact Moni Aisida, our Executive Director at moni@guestartistsspace.com.
Feedback
We welcome feedback on the accessibility information provided here, as well as personal experiences with the accessibility of our residencies and public programmes. Visitor insights are invaluable in helping us enhance our efforts. We encourage suggestions which can be shared by emailing Moni Aisida, our Executive Director, at moni@guestartistsspace.com.
Entrance
The G.A.S. Lagos compound is accessible via a dropped curb and ramp, which leads to a levelled area. Accessible parking spaces are available both outside the building and within the compound and can be requested for both resident and visitor use by emailing info@guestartistsspace.com.
The width of the entrance door is 87cm. During public events, the door may be pinned open or left ajar requiring visitors to push it open. If the door is locked or a visitor is unable to gain access they can consult security personnel located in the security office at the entrance to the compound.
The G.A.S. Farm House is accessible via a dropped curb and a pathway connecting the parking area to the residency building, leading into a level entrance hallway. Parking is conveniently located just outside the perimeter wall that encloses the residency building and its surrounding gardens. Please note that, due to the rural setting, some areas of the ground outside the building may be uneven including grass and gravel.
The width of the entrance door is 175cm. During public events, the door may be pinned open or left ajar requiring visitors to push it open. If the door is locked or a visitor is unable to gain access they can consult any member of G.A.S. staff or our Farm Residency Manager.
Public Spaces in Our Buildings
Most public events at G.A.S. Lagos are held in our ground-floor event space, the Great Room, or in the courtyard. The courtyard is accessible via a ramp and features a surface made of concrete pavers with uniform gaps between them, allowing grass to grow in the spaces. Please note that while the pavers provide a solid walking surface, the grassed gaps may create a slightly uneven texture.
Several times a year, we host open-house events that offer visitors access to the first-floor G.A.S. Library and Picton Archive, and resident’s quarters, as well as our rooftop terrace. Both upper floors are accessible via a lift or an exterior ramp.
Occasionally, we host public events at the G.A.S. Farm House or its neighbouring studio space. The G.A.S. Farm House is a single-storey building with smooth flooring throughout.
Access to the single-storey external studio space is via a gravel path and a grassed entrance lawn with one step into the building. We are actively working on making accessibility adjustments to this building. Visitors with access needs are encouraged to contact our team in advance to discuss any adjustments that can be made to facilitate their visit.
Private Residents' Accommodation
Each residency building includes one accessible bedroom. Residents seeking more information about these spaces and their use should inform G.A.S. staff during the onboarding process.
Restrooms
There is a single all-gender accessible restroom located on the ground floor of both G.A.S. Foundation buildings. We do not currently have specific public baby change facilities in either building.
Seating
For G.A.S. Lagos events, such as talks and workshops, general seating consists of armless chairs with backs. The seat height is 40cm. When seating is arranged in a ‘lecture style’ for talks, the front row can be reserved for individuals with access needs to provide additional legroom.
Events at the G.A.S. Farm House are typically more intimate. While we do not have designated event seating, armless chairs with backs and a sofa with armrests are available for guests within the main residency building. Seating arrangements can also be made upon request for the external studio space.
Lift
The G.A.S. Lagos building is equipped with a conventional residential lift, operated via push buttons, providing access to the ground floor, first floor, and roof terrace for both visitors and residents. Please note that the lift is not operational during power outages. In such cases, guests and residents can access these floors via an external ramp.
The G.A.S. Farm House is a step-free, single-storey building.
Assistance Animals
We welcome guide dogs, hearing and registered assistance dogs. Our team can provide a bowl of water on request.
Ticketing
The majority of events hosted by G.A.S. Foundation are free of charge. In the rare instance that an event requires a fee, please contact us if the cost of the ticket presents a barrier to your attendance. Additionally, if you require a complimentary ticket for a carer or companion, please contact us.
Refreshments
Light refreshments, including water, soft drinks, and snacks, are provided at most on-site events. On occasion, alcoholic beverages may also be offered. If you have any allergies or dietary restrictions, please contact our team in advance or inform a team member during the event.
The journey from Lagos to the G.A.S. Farm House typically takes about 3 hours. For your comfort, we recommend bringing your own snacks and water for the trip.
Rest/Quiet Space
We can provide designated quiet spaces within our facilities upon request, offering a calm and low-stimulation environment for those who need a retreat. Please contact us in advance if you require this accommodation.
Documentation
We document most events through photography and/or video, which may be used on our social media, website, print materials, and shared with the press. If you prefer not to be photographed or filmed, please inform a team member at the event or contact us in advance. Please also note that guests are permitted to take photographs and videos on-site for personal use.
Content Warnings
We aim to provide verbal or written content warnings if a screening, event, or artwork includes references to rape, sexual assault, suicide, self-harm, abuse, or gendered or racialised violence. If you would like more information about the content of a work or event in advance, please feel free to contact us.
Lights and Flashing
We will provide written and/or verbal warnings if flashing or strobing lights or imagery are used during any of our online or on-site events.
First Aid
If you feel unwell or require medical assistance at any of our events, please alert a member of our team as soon as possible. Both our sites include a standard first aid kit.

Our events do not offer captioning or audio description as standard. However, if you require captions or audio descriptions for any of our online or on-site events, we may be able to accommodate your needs. Please contact us at least one week in advance to allow time for arrangements.
Event recordings available on our website and Vimeo channel will generally include subtitles and, where possible, a transcript.
Sign Language
Our events do not offer sign language interpretation as standard. However, if you require sign language translation for any of our events, we may be able to provide this. Please contact us at least one week in advance to allow time for arrangements.
Getting to Our Buildings
The G.A.S. Lagos building is located at 9B Hakeem Dickson Drive, off T.F. Kuboye Road, Oniru, Lagos. Limited parking is available outside the building, with accessible parking spaces provided within the compound. To reserve parking for an extended period, please submit a request to info@guestartistsspace.com.
If using public transport, the nearest bus stop is Maruwa Bus Stop, located on T.F. Kuboye Road, Lekki Phase 1. This stop is approximately a 10-minute walk from the G.A.S. Lagos building.
Pavements along the route are typically paved with concrete or interlocking tiles and are generally smooth. However, in some areas, pavements may be uneven or obstructed by street vendors, vehicles, or other obstacles. Additionally, during the rainy season, certain sections may experience flooding, which could impact the usability of the pavements.
Any visits to the G.A.S. Farm House must be organised in advance with the G.A.S. team due to the remote nature of the residency. For more information please contact info@guestartistsspace.com.
